The Revenants
This series explores a collection of vintage photo-booth portraits (Photomatics), which were commercialised in the US in the 1930s. The first part consists of simulated “double exposures” - one portrait interacting with another beneath it to produce composite characters that blur age, gender and race. The second part catalogues these images as documentary artifacts, the product of a triangulated vision formed by the machine, the sitter and the artist.
